What to do in the Yucatan Peninsula
Those with an interest in history, wildlife and hotels abundant with character, and a very exclusive award winning spa, will enjoy this region of Mexico where it is often hot and sunny. Here are a couple of our favourite places and experiences in the Yucatan Peninsula whilst on your Mexican Holiday.
Colonial towns. Mérida, Campeche, Valladolid are three of the most beautiful colonial towns in the Yucatan Peninsula. Valladolid is a small, sleepy and traditional good looking place with a laid back atmosphere. Campeche is a colourful port city with protected UNESCO status. Merida is the largest of the three and boasts a couple of decent museums, an interesting history and an array of beautifully restored buildings.
Archaeological sites. There are some of the most pristine and mysterious ancient ruins dotted around the Peninsula from the increasingly busy Chichen Itza to the quieter sites like Uxmal that is surrounded by the forest and has panoramic views from the tip of the ruins. A guided tour with one of our hand selected guides is often a highlight for returning guests that are amazed by the thinking and advanced practises of the Mayans.
Luxury Haciendas have dotted up in the region and some boast world recognised spa and wellness facilities and luxury accommodation. For those seeking luxury, great food, spa facilities and easy access with fantastic day trips available then the Yucatan could be your idea of heaven.
