What are the highlights of a Mexico Holiday?

A Mexico Holiday really has something for everyone and being such a vast country the tricky part is deciding where to visit on your first, second, third ..trip. After a taste of Mexico many return to see other parts of the country as seeing it all in one trip is impossible. We are here to advice on the highlights of a Mexico tour and after speaking to you about your interest we can recommend and suggest the places that best fit your interests. Here are a couple of our favourite areas of Mexico.

  • Colonial Mexico. The central highlands of Mexico have a handful of truly stunning colonial towns where the Spanish influence is ever present in the cobbled streets, leafy plazas, Baroque churches and style of many of the buildings. The food in this region boasts some of the most exciting options as traditional recipes that have been modernised and tweaked over the years will surprise the taste buds of even the most adventurous of foodies.
  • Riviera Maya. This area is where you will find white sandy beaches with crystal clear water and an abundance of hotels that vary in style and size. Cancun being the most internationally recognised Mexican beach location. Away from Cancun you will find quieter areas that still cater for international tourists looking for something a little quieter.  Our most favourite places are the uber trendy area of Tulum and the quiet beach island of Holbox. These areas are gorgeous spots to rest, relax and unwind after your touring Mexico holiday.
  • Yucatan Peninsula. An absolute must for those with an interest in history and learning all about the rich and diverse history off Latin America. In this area there are a handful of stunning towns like Campeche and Merida that are well worth an afternoon’s exploration.
  • Mexico City. One of our favourite capital cities in the world.  Mexico City offers history, stunning and varried architecture, archaeological gems, first class restaurants and more.  It is a spectacular and vibrant city like no other.

When is the best time to visit Mexico?

Being such a large country there are large variables in the weather depending on where you want to go. Generally speaking then the middle of November to April is the driest season. June to November can get humid, especially along the Caribbean coast which is also going through the hurricane season in these months.

For those interested in traditional cultures and festivals then planning a trip aroudn Halloweena and Day of the Dead is a unqique experience. For a little more inofrmation about Day of the Dead look at our blog post. Day of the Dead, explained by South America Odyssey.

What are the best hotels in Mexico?

Mexico has a fantastic infrastructure for tourism and with that comes a lot of variety in style size and prices of the hotels. You can find meticulously converted haciendas in the Yucatan Peninsula that offer first class spa and delicious restaurants; a variety of beach escapes from large and glamorous to small and characterful dotted along the Riviera Maya to charming converted colonial mansion that vary in levels of service and luxury along the Central Highlands. Speak to us about all the options.

How much does a Mexico holiday cost?

Tricky question. No two itineraries are ever the same, but as a general guidance then a two week touring itinerary taking in the highlights of Mexico would cost approximately £3,900/$4875 per person based on two people sharing.

    Is Mexico safe?

Mexico, like any other country, has areas that can be a little unsafe, but security is a matter of common sense and the same precautions should be taken as in any other major city in the world.  There are areas in northern Mexico (mainly along the border) that we do not design trips to for security reasons. Away from these areas that attract a lot of negative international press then you will find Mexico to be safe, fun and full of welcome surprises.  We return regularly to Mexico so should you have any questions please just ask us.
