A simple and friendly lodge immersed in the tropical jungle of Tortuguero where the private wooden bungalows are interconnected to the communal areas with a series of raised platforms.
Directly over the canal of the small town of Tortuguero is where you will find this family friendly lodge. The individual cabins are fantastic and private, with the only draw back of this is that because it's sister hotel Pachira can be used by guests here and vice versa, it could mean people wandering through the grounds from the 89 rooms there.
Smaller than it's sister hotel, Aninga has just 32 private chalets. The chalets are spacious, airy and all of them have large ceiling fans, mesh netting on all the windows, ensuite bathrooms and little porches with hammocks or rocking chairs.
The main area is where you will enjoy buffet meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner are always included as there are no restaurants close whilst in this remote location. Food is hearty, yet simple with lots of locally harvested and grown fruits and vegetables.
Aninga also has a good sized pool that is a welcome refreshment after a mornings exploration. There is also a small spa and a well stocked bar and incredibly weak wifi.
Whilst here you will take part in small group based activities run by the lodges guides that also act like a concierge team whilst here to ensure you remain informed and happy. Activities vary depending on recent wildlife sittings and the weather. Usually you will take early morning nature treks, kayak through the mangrove swamps and a visit to the nearby town of Tortuguero. All of the trips have a wildlife based element to them where you will spot Basilisk Lizards, Howler and Spider Monkeys, Green Eyed Tree Frogs and if you are visiting between August and September you can go and watch the spectacle of Leatherback and Green Turtles laying their eggs on the beach under the moonlight.
