Mawamba Lodge in Tortuguero is a family friendly wildlife orientated lodge wonderfully located on the river.
The Caribbean inspired Mawamba lodge is an adventure even to get to - there are no roads so access is only via plane or boat. Saying that though, at the lodge you can be adventurous or as unadventurous as you like as they provide activities ranging from fishing to adrenaline filled kayaking. There is something for everyone.
The lodge comprises of 54 standard rooms and 4 superior rooms. The rooms are basic yet comfortable. They are contructed with wood and have nettings over the windows and internal fans. The lodge is designed to fit in with it's natural surroundings of the 'little amazon' that is Tortuguero National Park. The main draw of this lodge is it's close proximity to nature, its family atmosphere and the guides are excellent.
With some included in your stay, enjoy activities such as cultural village tours, guided walks, canal and boat tours, early morning boat tours, twilight tours, kayaking, fishing, canoeing, massages, turtle nesting tours and the unique Katonga floating restuarant experience.
The lodge also has a butterfly garden that you can venture into at any time or take a walk around the frog pond and seek out the local colourful frogs. The pool is also of a very good size and after a morning exploring the humid environment you can cool down with a fresh dip.
