ILLA Experience located in the artistic and beautiful San Marcos district of Quito is a gorgeous boutique hotel. The concept of the hotel is unique to the capital city of Ecuador as it invites you to learn more about the culture, the community and Ecuador. A hotel that we love and consider it easily one of the capitals best.
ILLA is a converted colonial mansion that has been meticulously restored with attention to detail at every stage and in keeping with the protected neighbourhood. Everything has a meaning from the original doors, the embroidered linens, the local paintings, the furniture right down to the afternoon snacks that you find in your room after a day of exploration. This elegant hotel is fantastic.
There are ten spacious rooms spread out over the three floors that all represent three important historical periods in the city; the colonial, the republican and the contemporary. The luxurious rooms all have doors into the internal courtyard and rooms either open up out over the courtyard, views of the traditional street or the Pancillo hill of Quito.
The rooms come with all you will ever need. From the high quality L’Occitane toiletries to the options of pillow to ensure the comfiest of sleeps in the hotel. The amuse-bouche are a welcome sight after a day exploring before your evening meal!
Illa is all about the experience of the hotel and every afternoon one of the local artists or craftspeople come to the hotel to demonstrate their skill I the courtyard. Its an interactive experience that ranges from trying your skill at weaving a panama hat to making ice cream! It is a really interesting experience where you get to learn a little more about the area and meet some of the locals of San Marcos.
The hotel also has a small, yet adequately sized spa that can be pre booked. There is also a patio with comfortable arm chairs where you can enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the city.
Neuma is a contemporary Ecuadorian restaurant run by head chef Alejandro Chamorro & Pieded Salazar. Both are highly regarded Latin American chefs with very strong training at some of the continents leading restaurants.
Illa Experience is superbly located to explore the local artists neighbourhood and is a short taxi ride away from the impressive historical quarter of Quito. Other options may include using it as a base to stay at a beautiful hotel before or after your Galapagos Holiday.
