Belmond Maroma Resort and Spa is a smaller luxurious hotel located on the popular Yucatan Peninsula in southern Mexico. This great hotel that has a very Mexican feel creates a private environment with first class service in an area that is better known for larger mass market tourism.

There are 63 rooms that all have a distinctive Mexican and local feel décor to them. Think hand painted tiles, local artwork and colourful Mayan inspired textiles. The rooms are very comfortable and some have views over the sea, other onto the garden and pool areas. Although the rooms are of a very high standard and we love them, they are due to undergo a refurb fairly shortly so we expect that everything will be modernised and refreshed imminently.
You will not be short of options whilst at this hotel where there are 3 restaurants. Our favourite is the outside terrace (‘El Restaurante’) that overlooks the Ocean where breakfast, light lunches and a full a la carte menu is served in the evening. They also occasionally run BBQ’s where you can get your fill of local seafood. For something a little lighter and casual then a lunchtime snack from ‘Freddy’s Bar’ is a must. The bar has been named after Freddy that has managed the beachside thatched roof bar for over 35 years. There is also a slightly more formal dining option (‘El Sol’) inside that has a tavern feel and is adjacent to smoking lounge where you can buy fine Cuban cigars.
The hotel has a large spa, three swimming pools, a yoga platform and there are stand up paddle boards, beach bikes, tennis courts, yachts for sailings, kayaks and other options available for guests.
