Caiman Ecological Refuge is the number one lodge in the Brazilian Southern Pantanal. The lodge is a sustainable initiative to protect the 53,000 hectares of this private ranch and the animals that live within it.
Caiman Ecological Refuge-The Details
The lodge consists of two buildings that are 25km apart; Baiazinha Lodge and Cordilheira Lodge. Baiazinha comprises of 6 double rooms and the décor is very traditional. Whereas Cordilheira has 5 suites and the style is contemporary. Both lodges have swimming pools, communal lounging areas and air conditioned rooms throughout.
Baiazinha is the lodge that they book up first with individual travellers and Cordilheira is used for small groups, generally speaking.
This remote lodge runs three and four night programs giving you time to fully explore this unique habitat. These programs are in high season (June 10th - September 9th) and are on fixed days (Thursday - Sunday and Sunday - Thursday). Outside of these months there is more flexibility on how many days you wish to stay there for.

Whilst here all your meals and excursions are included. Examples of some of the excursions are jeep safari, canoe tips, hiking and birdwatching-all with a focus on wildlife. There is also the optional Onçafari programme which promotes jaguar conservation in the Pantanal which may be of interest to some. How to get to Caiman Lodge?
You fly to a small landing strip known as Campo Grande. From here you take a 4x4 jounrey for approximately 4 hours to arrive at the lodge. Alternatively you can charter a plane for a small fortune from Campo Grande to a landing strip at the lodge.
