Paraty is a quaint and traditional UNESCO World Heritage town close to beautiful beaches, dense forests and only a couple of hours' drive from Rio de Janeiro.
Paraty - Things to do
Paraty is a charming little town which floods daily! This is an atmospheric old fishing village from which to explore the surrounding forests, wander around the preserved historical centre or soak up some Brazilian rays while enjoying smaller, cosier bays than the great expanses of beach in Rio.
Paraty - Where to stay
For a charming converted colonial mansion in the heart of the city, then look no further than Casa Turquesa. For a hotel closer to the water with direct access to explore the bays and find private beaches then Pousada Picinguaba is a great choice. For more information please do get in touch.
Paraty - Our opinion
Paraty is picturesque town, with plenty of daily activities available, such as trekking, kayaking and exploring the historical colonial town. For those seeking to simply flop on the beach on your doorstep, then we would recommend locations further north.
Pararty - Top Tip
We highly recommend that you speak to your hotel reception to find out the tide times; the town floods twice daily, and you don't want to get stuck on the wrong side of the road!
Paraty is also a super spot to try Brazil's famous contribution to the cocktail world, the caiprinha. Made with sugar cane rum (Cachaca), limes, ice and sugar, this zesty little drink has a refreshing kick and goes down extremely well in this hot climate. For another accommodation option, consider hiring a villa here, such as Casa Cairucu - the ultimate option to relax, unwind and enjoy soaking up the sun and cocktails.
